Wednesday October 9, 2024 12:00pm - 12:15pm EDT
Service is at the heart of KAMP members. We will evaluate KAMP’s mission and objectives and highlight KAMP stories that exemplify them. As we evaluate the future of mapping the Commonwealth, well explore the future of KAMP and your place in it. How can you serve right now and how can you serve the next generation of KAMP.

Lunch Keynote - "People, People, People"
Wednesday October 9, 2024 12:15pm - 1:15pm EDT
We all know that GIS is a field that demands understanding of niche technical tools, concepts, and computer software and is an awesome way of conveying spatial information. However, excellence in GIS is impossible without focusing on the human aspects of the job. GIS is certainly about location, but it’s also about connecting and communicating with people. I look forward to sharing the most impactful human interactions of my career and how they helped me both personally and professionally. Drawing from my experiences building an award-winning GIS program at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), fostering community on the platform formerly known as Twitter, wrestling with imposter syndrome, advocating for GIS portfolios, and more, we’ll look at how human connections are at the heart of GIS. People make the world go round, and the GIS world is no exception!

Breakfast Keynote - "Don't Panic, it's just AI: A Developers Handbook"
Thursday October 10, 2024 8:30am - 9:30am EDT
In a galaxy not so far away, where AI has become as ubiquitous as towels are to interstellar hitchhikers, one developer stands ready to guide you through the vast expanse of possibilities and pitfalls. Enter Christopher Moravec, your very own Ford Prefect, armed with a developer's handbook that's more essential than a Babel fish in your ear.
"Don't Panic, It's Just AI: A Developer's Handbook" is your ticket to navigating the often-bewildering landscape of artificial intelligence. Through real-world examples and live demonstrations, Christopher will show you how to wield AI as a tool for empowerment even as it threatens to make you as obsolete as a buggy whip salesperson at a spaceship convention. Just like with the answer to life, the universe, and everything (42), the key to success with AI lies in finding the right questions. Together, we will discover how to use chatbots to write code (because even the Geospatial Insanity Systems Corporation needs a little help sometimes), generate names for your map layers (goodbye, "Layer1_copy_final_final2"), and even create presentations on the fly (like this one!), as well as when to leave AI out of your toolkit.
So, whether you are a seasoned developer or just starting your journey, join Christopher for a wild ride through the galaxy of AI possibilities. It is time to stop panicking and start problem-solving!
